Nakheel’s Grand Ambition: A $220 Million Contract for Palm Jebel Ali's Marine Works

In a dazzling display of Dubai’s relentless quest for luxury and innovation, Nakheel, the iconic real estate developer under Dubai Holding Real Estate, has just awarded a monumental AED 810 million ($220 million) contract to Jan De Nul Dredging LTD. This Belgian marvel, part of the renowned Jan De Nul Group, is set to weave its magic over Palm Jebel Ali’s coastline, marking yet another milestone in Dubai’s ambitious real estate journey.

Imagine this: the sprawling Palm Jebel Ali island, destined to become a glittering jewel of opulence, now under the expert care of Jan De Nul Dredging. Their role? To undertake a suite of marine works including dredging, land reclamation, beach profiling, and sand placement. This grand project will not only shape the island’s physical form but will also pave the way for the development of luxurious villas across its 16 fronds.

With mobilization activities already in full swing, the promise is for these marine works to be completed in just over two years. The initial eight fronds are anticipated to be ready for villa infrastructure and civil works by the first quarter of 2025. Picture the excitement as construction begins on what promises to be a haven of luxury living.

In addition to the marine works, Nakheel has recently embarked on two significant infrastructure projects. These include the creation of a new public access road from Sheikh Zayed Road and enhancements to roadways and lighting from the mainland to Palm Jebel Ali. It’s all part of a grand vision to enhance connectivity and support the island’s burgeoning development.

Revealed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Palm Jebel Ali is set to offer an unparalleled range of luxury amenities. It’s more than just an island; it’s a testament to Dubai’s ambition, a vibrant addition to the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, and the dawn of a new growth corridor in the Jebel Ali area.

Khalid Al Malik, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Holding Real Estate, aptly described this partnership:

“Partnering with Jan De Nul Dredging reflects our unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation.”

As Nakheel accelerates its development under Dubai Holding, Jan De Nul’s expertise in marine and civil construction will be crucial in bringing this transformative vision to life.

Palm Jebel Ali, launched last year with more than 700 units of Phase 1 frond villas, is not just a development; it’s a lifestyle statement. Featuring eight distinctive styles that harmonize indoor and outdoor living, these villas are set in a serene coastal setting that promises an unmatched quality of life. Scheduled for handover in late 2026, the island will span an impressive 13.4 kilometers and boast 91 kilometers of beachfront, aligning perfectly with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan’s goal of expanding public beach access.

In essence, Nakheel’s projects are more than just constructions—they are iconic landmarks in Dubai’s ever-evolving landscape, pivotal in realizing the emirate’s grand vision of the future. As Palm Jebel Ali takes shape, it’s not just a promise of luxury but a testament to Dubai’s unyielding commitment to creating extraordinary living experiences.
