Can a trustee also be a beneficiary?

Last reviewed

Absolutely, a person can be named both a trustee and a beneficiary of the same trust. This scenario is quite common, especially in family trusts. The trust creator (grantor or settlor) might choose a trusted family member, like a child, to manage the trust (as trustee) while also being someone who inherits from it (as a beneficiary).
